One of the most anticipated, glamourous and fun events in the gambling world is the NBC Heads Up Poker Tournament. Now in its sixth year the tournament which is televised on NBC will be held at the famous Caesars Palace Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. The great part of the NBC Heads Up Poker Tournament is it not only brings top names in the gambling community together, but there are also ample chances for novice and, in this year’s case, first time live match poker players together. They will be playing for a share of the $1.5 million prize pool. There are several ways to qualify and all of them are used by want-to-be poker stars.

The beginning rounds, which started March 4 saw 64 invited players square off. Those 64 players are asked to buy in to the NBC Heads Up Poker Tournament at $20,000 a piece. Of the 64 players two come from the host casinos (Caesars Palace) qualifying tournament and five others qualified by playing on online poker sites. Then they must all face the luck of the draw. Players learn who they will be matched up with at a lottery style drawing.

Two first time players are participating in the NBC Heads Up Poker Tournament. Of course, saying they are “first time” players is a bit of an understatement. Both Illinois resident Richard Edwards and German Annette Dworski are playing in their first ever live poker games. Both Edwards and Dworski qualified through online casino tournaments. Both have only been playing for a short time (a year and two years respectively). Both are matched up against the best poker players in the world. The one advantage they both have is, they have seen their competition countless times on television and the internet. Their competition just learned their name. In any case they will need all the luck they can get. The NBC Heads Up Poker Tournament at Caesars Palace Resort and Casino Las Vegas will conclude on March 7. Who knows an unknown name may become the next gambling superstar.
