Online Casino Breaks Own Single Tournament Participation Record
Author: Chris // Category: Las Vegas CasinosCasinos count on gimmicks and promotions to bring in new and retain payers on their online sites and land based properties. Sometimes promotions can be the difference between a prospective player stopping into play and passing by in search of a gambling home. Casinos have come up with exciting tournaments, themed games, prize give-a-ways, huge progressive jackpots, and elite membership status in hopes of attracting customers. In the case of PokerStars.com, attracting customers has reached a whole new level, and for the third time in just a little over a year.
It is not as though PokerStars.com needs to advertise. It is already considered to be one of the leading and most famous of the online poker and gambling sites. However, it has a reputation to uphold and they have accomplished that completely. This December, the online poker site decided they wanted to best the record they already own and host the most players to participate in a single online poker tournament. The previous record was set this July when PokerStars.com calculated that 65,000 players entered. This almost double the record held by (you guessed it) PokerStars.com when 35,000 players participated in the December 2008, attempt. Just a year later the original number has grown by almost 400 percent. The Guinness Book of World Records confirmed that on December 27, 2009 149,196 payers payed the $1 buy in and played poker.
According to a blog on their website the stats for the online poker tournament came out as such. The winner took home $50,000, with runners up receiving between $3,000 and $30,000. The record breaking number of players would fill the Rose Bowl with close to 60,000 people waiting outside. If the tournament were to be held at the Las Vegas MGM Grand, MGM would have to build 29 more of their flagship resort and casino. The tournament only lasted six hours. It is no secret that the online casino industry in booming. PokerStars.com and The Guinness Book of World Records has official proof.
