Stanley Ho, known as the “Gambling King” has been listed in grave condition as of last week. Last year in July one of the most influential and recognizable names and faces in the gambling world took a nasty spill that has now led him to be hospitalized and listed as not doing well. According to reports through the China press, the fall that he suffered in his home last year might have caused serious brain injury and now are producing declining effects on the gambling icon. As of last friday his health continued to decline as the 88 year old was hospitalized.
Stanley Ho built his name in the gambling community by structuring a monopoly on gambling in Macao. Because of this he has become known as the wealthiest man in Macao, therefore leading to the title of “Gambling King.” His last Forbes ranking listed him at 701 of the wealthiest people in the world with nearly $1 billion to his name.
Ho is the king of gambling although he doesn’t play the game himself. He comes from very mixed roots of Portuguese, Jewish, British and Chinese descent. He followed in his fathers footsteps for a while as his father was one of the wealthiest people in Hong Kong until a bad stock market investment caused him to lose it all.
Ho put his mind to work and began to build his dynasty and even his daughter has become a key player in the industry. Many are afraid to deal with Ho as it has been released that there may be mob ties or affiliates that support Ho in his casino ventures. Even with these allegations, Ho has been a great contributor to the community by providing scholarship finds and educational funds throughout Macau. His condition is a serious one following a cerebral surgery recently.
