PA Casino Makes Payment on New Hockey Arena

It seems every week there is a new deal being reported where a casino or even an online casino takes hold in sponsorship of some new event or television show.  It also seems like the new fad for casinos is to sponsor major sporting teams.  This is particularly true in Europe.  The past few months have seen a slew of casinos and online gaming and gambling sites sponsor some the continent’s most acclaimed football teams, (that means soccer teams).  Soccer fans in the United Kingdom and the mainland can now see the names of their favorite gambling halls on the jerseys and merchandise of their favorite teams.  There is even one championship event being whose has acquired the name of an online casino.

While that has not taken as strong of a foothold in the United States, there are signs that casinos are starting to learn from their European cousins.  Of course this does not apply to online casinos as they are not quite legal in the United States and are, understandably, unwilling to plaster their name all over sports arenas.  However, you are seeing that poker tournaments and events of that nature are being sponsored by just the kind of venues and sites you would expect.

In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a popular casino has put up a large some of cash to help build a new arena for the local NHL hockey team, the Pittsburgh Penguins.  The newspaper, The Pittsburgh Business Times, has reported that “The Rivers Casino made its first payment to the Pittsburgh Sports & Exhibition Authority Thursday as part of an original agreement to help finance the new Consol Energy Center…”  The Consol Energy Center is currently under construction.

The Rivers Casino has send the Sports and Exhibition Authority a $2.3 million initial payment.  They are scheduled to pay a total of $7.5 million over the next thirty years.  The final details of the agreement is still being ironed out, but officials from both sides expect the deal to be finalized in the bear future.

The economy continues to affect casinos throughout the state of Nevada. Many reports have shown that larger Hotel and Casino resorts are drastically dropping their prices in order to raise the room occupancy rate is still falling below standards.

Luxury casino resorts are being forced to match the roommate of smaller economy casinos in order to stay open during this rough economic time. Although the larger casino resorts continue to complain, many small Casino resorts have shut down and file for bankruptcy as they failed to have the capital and the means to stay open during these tough times.

Such is the case in Mesquite, Nevada, where small casinos have closed down because the rate could go under compete with that of the larger casino. The town of Mesquite Nevada saw a decline in tourism by nearly 26% last year. This impacted the small town in the casino company owned by Black gaming thereby causing them to close the oasis. At the casino resort close to 500 workers were laid off impacting the small town of 20,000 people.

After hearing about an unexpected sport complex to a nearby town of Hurricane, Utah, Mayor Susan Holecheck decided to hunt down the developers of the complex and slay them to come to the small town of Mesquite. After her pitch for the city was over, Holecheck scored the building of the new complex as well as selling 864 acres of city property. This $6.3 million sale will help to generate revenue for the small town.

Now what was once known for its gambling casinos will now be known for its sports complex. The deal will be finalized this week as a 5% down payment will be due. This new insurgents of revenue will help fill the void that left one Black gaming casinos and the oasis became bankrupt, leaving hundreds of workers out of jobs.

Casinos Are Losing Money From High Roller Gamblers Part II

Author: Chris  //  Category: Uncategorized

There are certain times of the year that casinos are more likely to get hit by these high rollers that skip out on their tabs. One time of year in particular is the CHinese New Year. The months of January and February bring in the Asian market of high rollers to celebrate this festive occasion.

What keep the casikno open is the percentage of house wins that are factored into the casino making money. On the whole weekend casino gamblers come in and have very little knowledge of the games, and tend to be less “lucky” at games of chance , especially with the cards. Other players come in armed with the knowledge and for a limited time seem to rule the house.

The house was set up in casinos to always have the edge, but lately, fewer players have been investing or participating in the gambling, therefore the house advantage in casinos is going down. For example, Baccarat players wagered 18 percent less this year, than last which equates to a total of $1.4 billion. In the months of January and February, the casinos took a big hit as they won 22 percent less than the year before. Just with Baccarat play alone that two months cost the casino $153.1 million.

Baccarat play is huge to some casinos that offer only the high roller games and draw in the specific crowd. Some casinos were less affected by this drop in Baccarat. The MGM casios have been known to cater to high rollers to weekend warriors and everything in between. Due to their broad spectrum, there Baccarat revenue only dropped by 1 percent within this time. Other table games however, suffered dramatically.
With all table games except Baccarat, the MGMG casinos saw a decline of 20 percent in revenue in the first quarter alone.
In some instances, high rollers are still making it to the tables, but aren’t staying for as long as they used to. This effects the house advantage as the longer they stay, the more the house edge increases.
“People who stay in the gambling business long enough stop trying to use credit as a marketing tool,” said Wynn. “They stopped giving money to people who are unlikely to pay. That’s an earmark of the inexperienced casino executive.”
